Our team at Aus Eco Solutions has the pleasure of spending time managing three small grasslands in Altona. It is a sensitive area and we keep chemical use to a minimum, spraying carefully with a knapsack. We partake in a lot of hand weeding and chipping out; this takes more time, but eliminates any chance of damaging off target species. It is lovely to stride through the centre of the grasslands, they are full of Kangaroo grass (Themeda triandra) and other natives such as Wallaby grass, Woolly buttons, Spear grass, Creeping saltbush and Blushing bindweed. We are excited to implement a mosaic burn regime and re-vegetation in autumn/winter 2015 to stimulate the quantity of native grasses and lead to recruitment of herbaceous species.
