Helping people connect with our Earth and themselves

Discovering My Life Purpose

Written By Kerrie Guppy, Managing Director (written in April 2013 but still holds true two years later in March 2015)

Discovering my life purpose “to help people connect with our Earth and themselves” has taken me a while. Now that I have discovered my life purpose I feel a sense of peace within my self.

My life purpose summarises my life to date, and also gives me clarity about what I am doing with the rest of my life, and provides a framework for my life.

I feel good that each day I can live a purposeful life, as just a simple conversation, facebook post or thought can build towards my life purpose every day!

My journey to get here started in my childhood just being a child. Discovering what I loved about life. Encouraged by my parents to try many different activities and always do my best.

A couple of years ago I read an article by Darren Hardy, publisher of Success Magazine, about happiness. He posed two questions:

1) What would you do with yourself if you were trapped on a deserted island?

2) If you could chose three people to be trapped on the island with you, who would those three people be?

I decided that I would immerse myself in nature on the island. And I couldn’t pick just three people, as we have four children, so it would have to be my husband and all four of our children.

I decided that being in nature with my family made me happy, and guess what? That is what makes me happy and when I looked back on my life, that was the simple key to happiness for me. No wonder I have always felt a sense of happiness in my every day life no matter what life has thrown at me.

My love for nature and my family was reinforced when our family stayed with Aaron and Luanne at www.nativenaturetours.co.nz near Kawakawa in New Zealand in 2012. I was extremely moved by the connection Maoris have with their land both spiritually and as their livelihood. I have experienced this before when travelling in outback Australia and spending time with Aborigines.

I had been exploring the words to capture my desire to have a better connection with our land and respect the abundance it can provide for humanity if given the respect it so rightly deserves. I am concerned at how disconnected western society has become from our food sources, caring for our environment, etc.

So defining my life purpose with some simple words gives me clarity that I have been on the right path and I still am.

“To help people connect with our Earth and themselves.”

Do you know your life purpose?

If yes:
How did you discover your life purpose?
How important is leading a purposeful life to you?

If no:
What would you do with yourself if trapped on deserted island?
If you could chose three people to be trapped on the island with you, who would those three people be?
Do you think answering these two questions could help you discover your life purpose?

Who inspires you with their life purpose?
